FAQs About Dental Implants

If you are dealing with tooth loss then chances are good that you’ve been considering dental implants. Have questions about this restoration? Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions about dental implants,

What is a dental implant?

Simply put, a dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is made from titanium. This biocompatible metal post is placed into the jawbone where the missing tooth once was to provide a permanent foundation from which to support one or more false teeth.

But I’m missing several teeth. Am I still a candidate for dental implants?

Absolutely! Most people assume that dental implants are only for those who are missing a single tooth; however, implants can be placed throughout the arches of the jawbone to replace as many teeth as you need. So it doesn’t matter whether you are missing one, two, several or all of your teeth, you could still be an ideal candidate for implants.

Okay, so what makes someone a good candidate for dental implants?

This is one of the most common questions we hear, and it makes sense. After all, millions of American adults are dealing with tooth loss and most want to know if implants are right for them. The good news is that most healthy adults are candidates for implants. Age is rarely a factor, as we’ve seen older adults and even seniors get implants. Of course, our team will need to examine your teeth and gums first to make sure that you are healthy enough for implants.

I already have dentures. Is it too late to consider implants?

You may be surprised to hear that many denture wearers choose to upgrade to implants in order to better support and stabilize their false teeth. So yes, you too could get dental implants. Of course, if it’s been years since you lost your teeth, our Implant specialist will need to make sure that your jawbone is strong enough to support implants. This can be determined by simply performing X-rays.
